by William Bates . A Catch for Four voices , in C major

Text:

Jack at the masthead with joy cries, “A sail,
she is ours my brave boys, her strength shan’t avail!”
“Then follow,” says Bluff to the rest of his crew,
“her mast’s by the board she soon must bring too,”
says a tar to the parson (midst fire and smoke),
“She’ll blow us to heaven indeed, I don’t joke,”
with pale-looking face (not minding the jest),
“God forbid!” in a fright replied the poor priest.
